What the United States smallest state lacks in size, it makes up for in natural beauty. The “Ocean State” is home to 643 kilometres of beautiful coastline and seafaring traditions. Our tour includes visits to some of the most iconic mansions in Colonial-era history; Breakers, a symbol of the Vanderbilt family financial preeminence in the gilded age; Rosecliff Mansion, the home of Theresa Fair Oelrich known for having the richest silver funds in history and hosting Harry Houdini; The Blithewold Mansion, original to its past glory will host us for an afternoon tea. An included visit to Green Animal Topiary Gardens with their one-of-a-kind animal sculptures is a truly amazing visit. Enjoy coastal views on a harbour cruise and a spectacular 10 mile drive. Delicious New England cuisine and more complete this fabulous tour to Rhode Island.

Day 1

Travel back in time to the Gilded Age of Newport! We will depart from Belleville and make quick stops in Kingston and Gananoque to pick-up our other time travellers! We will cross the border and make a lunch stop at the Cracker Barrell (on your own) before we start heading to the "Ocean State" - Rhode Island!

We will check into the Wyndham Newport Hotel upon arrival. Dinner is included this evening at the hotel and afterwards we will enjoy a re-creation of a Newport Cotillion. Music will be provided by a local musician as you enjoy dancing a waltz and learning easy-to-follow steps for a contra dance!

Day 2

After our included breakfast at the hotel this morning we will meet our local guide at the Newport Visitors Center. Meet Mrs. Caroline Astor! The Grande Dame of Newport and New York Society in the Gilded Age of the late 1800's!

Enjoy the charm of Newport's historic buildings and restored homes on this narrated tour covering over 150 points of interest. Take in the rugged beauty of Ten-Mile Ocean Drive and the fabulous mansions along tree-lined Bellevue Avenue!

We will then tour the Marble House. Built between 1888 and 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt, it was a summer house or "cottage", as Newporter's called them in remembrance of the modest houses of the early 19th century. Mr. Vanderbilt was the grandson of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, who established the family's fortune in steamships and the New York Central Railroad.

Enjoy free time for lunch (on your own), on the historic downtown waterfront filled with cobblestone shopping; wharves lined with antique stores; art galleries; specialty shops and restaurants.

In the afternoon we will depart on the Coastal Queen Harbor Cruise! Experience magnificent Newport Harbor and the Bay with views of lighthouses, harbor mansion and forts. Cross the bay to see Rose Island Lighthouse, Clingstone, and Jamestown. This enclosed harbor tour shows Newport off at its picture-perfect best!

We will head back to the hotel after the cruise and dinner will be included this evening.

Day 3

We will depart the hotel after our included breakfast and head to Point Judith for the ferry to Block Island! Known as Manisses (the Little God's Island) by the Narragansett Indians this island is just 10 square smiles. Pristine beaches protected by lighthouses and spectacular bluffs offer breathtaking views. There will be time for lunch and exploring on your own upon arrival. Admission is included on a sightseeing tour.

For dinner we will enjoy a Lobster Bake Dinner on the porch of the Historic National Hotel (included).

We will then board the ferry back to the mainland and make our way back to the hotel.

Day 4

Breakfast is included this morning at the hotel. Afterwards, our local guide will take anyone who's interested on a easy ½ mile walk on the Cliff Walk. Enjoy the natural beauty of the stunning coastline with the architectural history of the Gilded Age. The panoramic views of the ocean, with waves crashing on the magnificent bluffs, is what makes the Cliff Walk so unique!

We will then pick-up any one in our group who did not go on the Cliff Walk and depart to the Rosecliff Mansion for a self-guided tour! Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1889, the house was completed in 1902. Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini. Lunch will be included today.

In the afternoon we will visit the oldest and most northern topiary garden in the USA, the Green Animal Topiary Garden in Portsmouth. The 7-acre estate overlooks the Narragansett Bay. It contains a large collection of topiaries including eighty sculptured trees.

After we will head to afternoon tea at the Blithewold Estate! The property hosts grand views of the Narragansett Bay and features a 45-room mansion filled with family heirlooms and is framed by a series of lovely gardens that range in character from mysterious to exotic.

We will return to the hotel and dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 5

We will travel back to the 21st century after our last included breakfast at the hotel this morning. Say good-bye to this magical age and Newport as we make our way back to modern day Canada.
